Library Assistant 

We are looking for a detail-oriented individual in the Circulation Department to provide friendly, high quality customer service. You will be responsible for providing customer assistance in person and via phone, checking library materials in and out, answering questions about library accounts and directing customer questions to the appropriate person. You will also be responsible for Interlibrary Loan duties.

27-30 hours a week. Schedule includes daytime, evenings and Saturday morning.

Job Summary:
Lend and collect books, periodicals, DVD’s, and other materials at the circulation desk
Register identification cards to new borrowers
Update borrower identification cards
Sort books, publications, and other items according to established procedure and return them to shelves, files, or other designated storage 
Locate library materials for borrowers
Instruct borrowers on how to use reference sources, on-line card catalogs, and automated information systems
Help borrowers place holds
Inspect returned library materials for damage
Inspect DVD cases for returned DVD’s 
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
Maintain professional behavior appropriate to public setting
Ability to meet and deal effectively with the public
Make copies, send faxes, scan, and laminate
Continuing education required through OLC (Ohio Library Council) and the State Library of Ohio
Interlibrary Loan general purpose
Process all incoming and outgoing interlibrary loan requests for SEO Consortium
Duties and responsibilities
Process interlibrary loan requests on Workflows; process requests for other libraries to borrow materials
Verify, locate, and reply to interlibrary loan requests and send out requested materials via courier
Works with Integrated Library System circulation software to determine interlibrary loan status and locations; place and trap holds; route items; renew items
Collaborates with regional courier delivery service and ensure materials are labeled properly and delivery problems are promptly resolved, answers
questions for libraries
Ability to
Interact with borrowers by phone or email regarding library loan materials; assist borrowers and staff members to resolve problems associated with interlibrary loan requests
May provide training to staff as needed
Must interact in a professional and respectful manner to statewide interlibrary staff and borrowers
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Physical and Environmental Conditions:
Considerable mobility including, but not limited to, extensive periods of walking, bending, sitting, lifting weights up to 20 pounds, and pushing full book carts.
Manual dexterity sufficient to perform general typing and computer skills.
Calm and focused handling of interruptions and distractions.
Periodic intense concentration and sustained viewing of a computer monitor.

High School Diploma or GED required
Working knowledge of computers required
